BLAIR MEMORIAL LIBRARY INTERNET ACCESS INTERNET ACCESS POLICY: The mission of the Blair Memorial Library is to provide quality materials and services which fulfill educational, informational, cultural, and recreational needs of the entire community in an atmosphere that is welcoming, respectful, and business-like. The library recognizes the Internet as an important source of information, and will support direct patron access, subject to the following guidelines : The Internet station is intended for information-gathering only. Use of chatrooms, newsgroups, games, shopping, and other interactive communications services is prohibited. It is not to be used for commercial purposes or word processing. Downloading information to a diskette is not permitted. All persons under 18 must use filtered computers unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Users are responsible for material that is accessed, which may be controversial in nature. Parents/guardians are responsible for monitoring materials accessed by minors. Use of these Internet stations for illegal or criminal purposes or to seek unauthorized access is prohibited. Copyright infringement is illegal and prohibited. The Blair Memorial Library assumes no responsibility for accuracy of information found on the Internet, or for any direct or indirect damages arising from use of its connection to Internet services. PARENTS: Please be aware that the Internet may contain controversial material. Monitor your children when allowing them to use Internet services. INTERNET USE GUIDELINES: The Internet is available on one filtered and two unfiltered workstations during regular library hours. Sessions must end 15 minutes before closing time. Patrons wishing to use the Internet workstation must sign in at the circulation desk and show a library card that is valid at the Blair Memorial Library or a state-issued picture identification. Internet workstation time may be reserved in person or by phone. Only one block of time (30 minutes) may be reserved during one day, but can be extended an additional half hour if not in demand. Any person who is 10 minutes late may forfeit a reserved time slot if another patron requests computer use. Instructions will be provided, but staff is not available to train patrons on use. The library owns a number of books about Internet that may be signed out. Please remember when viewing a site that these workstations are very visible to others and choose sites accordingly. Librarians may ask you to exit a site inappropriate for viewing in the public library. The library reserves the right to deny access to patrons who misuse the equipment or create a disturbance. The cost to print is $ .10 per page and is to be paid at the front desk.
