1. Internet access at the Clinton-Macomb Public Library is an extension of the library's commitment to meeting the community's information needs. In addition to using the Internet as an information resource, the library will provide limited public access to the Internet to the extent allowed by MCL 397.606 as amended. 2. The staff of the Clinton-Macomb Public Library has developed a variety of Web pages with recommended links in order to facilitate public use of the Internet. Users should recognize, however, that the library is not responsible for changes to the content of linked sites, nor for the content of sources accessed through subsequent links. Staff will provide assistance to Internet users to the extent that time and customer demands allow. 3. Internet resources accessible through the library are provided equally to all library customers. 4. The Clinton-Macomb Public Library neither monitors nor controls information accessed through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content, quality, accuracy or currency. The Internet is a worldwide community with a highly diverse user population and it is the customer's responsibility to use this resource wisely. 5. Studies have shown that Internet filtering software cannot guarantee a safe Internet environment. Parents or guardians, not the library or its staff, are responsible for the Internet information selected and/or accessed by their children. Children under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian seated next to them at the Internet workstation when using the library's computers. 6. The Internet workstation must be used in a responsible manner, respecting the rights of others, and taking care with use of the equipment. Computer and Internet settings may not be changed and the downloading of files is prohibited. 7. The workstations cannot be used for any fraudulent or unlawful purpose, including any activities prohibited under any applicable federal, Michigan or local laws. 8. Customers should be aware that material on the Internet and the World Wide Web is copyrighted. It is the user's responsibility to be aware of the display of any notices concerning the copyright of information on the Web and to respect the copyright laws of the United States. 9. The library does not condone the use of library equipment to access material that can be classified as obscene, child pornography, or harmful to minors. The Clinton-Macomb Public Library is committed to providing an environment free from sexual and other forms of harassment and hate. Customers are asked not to display on screens and/or print materials that may be objectionable. Screen filters will be placed on all screens easily viewed by other customers of the library. 10. Internet access may not be available due to technical problems. 11. Computer use by a customer is limited to 60 minutes at a time. Extension of the time limit may be granted only if the computer does not need to be accessed by other customers or library staff. 12. Printing may be done. The first 10 pages are free, subsequent pages are 10¢ each. 13. Library employees are authorized to terminate any user's access session for up to two weeks if the user has failed to comply with the library's Internet Policy and/or rules. The library director may impose longer or permanent restrictions for violations of the library's Internet Policy. 14. Internet users whose access session has been terminated or prohibited may request the decision reviewed by the Board of Trustees.
